The landlord emailed me in July, after he had seen an article in The Daily News that mentioned we were still looking for the perfect Brooklyn space for our distillery.
“I’ve got a building in Williamsburg you might be interested in,” he said. “It’s basically just a steel shed, one block from McCarren Park.” I said I’d come by the next day to check it out. I was blown away – it looked perfect. Huge high ceilings, two roll-up loading doors. And the rusty corrugated tin – I loved it.

The Shanty
When Allen first saw this building he said “It looks just like a Kentucky rick house!” and he wanted it for his very own. In October, we signed the lease.
Now we’re working on the multiple permits and licenses needed – they don’t make it easy to start a distillery.
